Mihkel Zilmer is an award-winning film and media composer. He has written music for numerous critically acclaimed and award-winning films, including the Estonian historical epic TRUTH AND JUSTICE, the country’s highest-grossing film and most-viewed theatrical release of all time. The film was also shortlisted for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Oscars.

Among his other notable credits is the crime thriller FOREVER RICH (Netflix, 2021), the first Dutch-language feature film produced for Netflix; the multi-award-winning historical sports drama KALEV (Estonia, 2022), for which Zilmer received the EFTA Best Original Score award. KALEV was selected as Estonia’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards. Zilmer composed the score for the World War I drama ERNA AT WAR (Denmark, 2020), starring phenomenal award-winning actress Trine Dyrholm. The film earned multiple nominations at the Danish Film Awards.

In addition to his work in narrative film, Mihkel has scored several acclaimed documentaries, including BURDEN OF PEACE (The Netherlands, 2015), which follows the Guatemalan Attorney General in her fight against corruption and impunity.

With a predominantly classical training background, Mihkel is adept at creating orchestral soundscapes and finding new, creative ways to infuse them with ethnic, electronic, and experimental elements, in service of the art of storytelling through music.
